I just need to tell you that my daughter isn’t the only writer in the family with a project just “birthed”. My husband David has written a play that is currently receiving its world premiere at Lamb’s Players Theatre in Coronado, California.
Jane: A Ghost Story is a version of the novel Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. This classic tale of redeeming love has been given pop and sparkle by resetting it in the 1920s, an era that lends a powerful new context to a heroine like Jane who finds her voice and agency in a less hospitable world.
Recently friends of ours from Chicago came out to see the play. Here we are with LB and David Norton, and LB’s sister Audrey and her husband John who joined us from Seattle. Audrey was a literature professor before retirement. She used to teach Jane Eyre; and LB is one of the friends with whom I have traveled to literary conferences. Both were quite complementary toward David’s treatment of the original text.
If you happen to be in San Diego before November 12, and you want a lovely and moving live theatre experience, I hope you’ll consider heading to Coronado to see Jane: A Ghost Story at Lamb’s Players.
Love, Liz
